BioCollect is an advanced, but simple-to-use data collection tool for biodiversity science. It was developed by the Atlas of Living Australia in collaboration with many organisations to assist users in collecting field data for their own projects as well as to enable new biodiversity data to be easily copied into the ALA where it can be available for others to use in research, policy and management. This allows individual projects to collectively contribute to “big science”.
BioCollect is designed for scientists, ecologists, citizen scientists and natural resource managers to collect and manage their biodiversity, ecological and natural resource management (NRM) data. It is hosted by the ALA and is free for public use.
BioCollect provides form-based structured data collection for:
1) Assessment and monitoring activities such as:- ad-hoc surveys; and
- method-based systematic structured surveys
- revegetation;
- rehabilitation; or
- weed and pest management projects
BioCollect also allows upload of unstructured data in the form of data files, grey literature, images, sound bytes, and video links.
COLLECT your data – PROMOTE your project – COMMUNICATE with your participants – SHARE your data

How can you use BioCollect?
Community Groups & Individuals
- Set up a citizen science project for your community members and/or the general public to collect monitoring /assessment data.
- Visit the ACSA Citizen Science Projects hub, find a project that interests you and help out by contributing data or doing some transcriptions – there are projects in your local area or all over the world.
- Are you doing assessment or monitoring, but don’t plan on inviting the public to participate? Set up a research/ecoscience project.
- Create a NRM project to plan and record the details of implementing your revegetation, rehabilitation and pest/weed management activities.
Natural Resource Management Organisations & NGOs
